Ep. 27 Jeannie White: From Smoking in the Cockpit to Security Checks

A stewardess and flight attendant may seem like one and the same, but Flip Your Script host Kristi Piehl learned just how different they are when she sat down with retired flight attendant Jeannie White. Jeannie began her 43-year career as a then stewardess in 1969 when airlines only hired single women under specific weight and age limits. Through the course of her career, Jeannie witnessed the airline industry evolve to what travelers experience today. They discuss everything like the strict rules imposed on stewardesses, the uniforms they had to wear, when the term stewardess transitioned to flight attendant, smoking on airplanes and the first attempts at security. Jeannie’s personal stories bring to life the progress that has been made and showcases just how much an entire industry can transform throughout a lifetime.
