Ep. 99 Sidney Barnette: From Unconventional Childhood to Sharing Family Pride

Nearly 300,000 children live in a home with same-sex parents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. For Sidney Barnette, growing up with two moms didn't seem out of the ordinary. But by the time she was in elementary school, she started noticing her family was different from the other kids. She would get questions and hear comments about not having both a mom and a dad.

Growing up in the 1990s, it was illegal for Sidney’s moms to get married. It wasn’t until June 26, 2015 that the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in all 50 states. With June being Pride Month, Sidney is sharing her story to encourage others to ask questions and stay curious to gain a better understanding of others.

In this episode of Flip Your Script with Kristi Piehl, Sidney shares her experiences growing up and what she hopes people will take away from her story. In honor of Pride Month, Sidney and Kristi also talk about how society has flipped its script on gay marriage.
